According to reports, the incidence of varicosis of great saphenous vein in China is about 10%, which is slightly higher in the United States, among people over the age of 50, approximately 15% of men and 25% of women suffer from varicose veins. Besides varicose veins, spider veins is also one of the vein problems that disturb the patients. In recent years, with the continuous emergence of new technologies, various minimally invasive treatments have been realized in the treatment of varicose veins and spider veins, including electrocoagulation, radiofrequency treatment, microwave treatment and endovenous laser treatment (EVLT). What can VeinSight™ Vein Finder do during the vessel treatment?

Varicose Veins and Spider Veins

Veins are in charge of transport of blood towards heart, during this process, there are many valves who guarantee the blood flow in one-way direction, from superficial veins to deeper veins and then back to the heart. These valves will close once the blood passes through it to avoid the backflow. However, if this valve weakens or becomes damaged, the blood may struggle to flow in the wrong direction, and it can begin to pool inside the vein, with higher pressure, vessel walls may become weaker. Here comes the vein problems. If blue, purple, or red lines in shape of web or branch appear in the surface of skin, it may belong to spider veins, when the superficial veins become enlarged and twisted, we call it varicose veins.
Spider veins and varicose veins appear mostly in the leg, far from the heart, where the blood should be pumped back up to heart. Spider veins on the face are often the result of tiny blood vessels bursting. Increased pressure or sun damage can cause this to occur. Anyone can get spider veins or varicose veins, but women are twice as susceptible as men. The problem is also more common in people with jobs that keep them on their feet, including nurses and teachers. Other factors that may contribute include aging, obesity, pregnancy, prior trauma, or surgery to the leg and a genetic predisposition.
On one hand, vein problems especially varicose veins may cause aching or cramping in the legs. The affected area may throb, burn, tingle, or feel heavy. Severely inflamed veins can be tender to the touch and may reduce circulation, leading to itchy, swollen ankles. They can also produce chronic skin and tissue changes such as discoloration and ulceration of the skin. On the other hand, even if varicose veins and spider veins doesn’t cause pain, they may have psychological effects for cosmetic reasons, and negatively affect one's quality of life.

Vein illuminator for various minimally invasive treatments

If home remedies like compression stockings don’t yield enough improvement, there are medical procedures to eliminate spider veins and varicose veins. Minimally invasive treatments include electrocoagulation, radiofrequency treatment, microwave treatment and endovenous laser treatment (EVLT). Take EVLT as an example, it was provided by German and well expand all over the world. EVLT uses laser heat to treat varicose veins.

During this procedure, vein viewer who can digitally display a vessel map on the surface of skin could help to locate the vein. First of all, doctors begin to inject numbing medicine in the sick area, and then a needle makes a small hole (puncture) in the vein to be treated. The catheter containing the laser heat source is inserted into patients' vein. Once the catheter is in the right position, it's then slowly drawn backward. As the catheter sends out heat, the vein is closed off. When the treatment is done, the catheter is removed. Pressure is applied to the insertion site to stop any bleeding. An elastic compression stocking or a bandage may then be put on your leg.

Vein Finder for the Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy wipes out 80% of treated veins. A doctor injects a solution directly into the abnormal vein. The blood vessel is destroyed, becomes fibrotic, and eventually disappears. This procedure requires a high degree of technical skill and special training. A thorough evaluation prior to the treatment is necessary to avoid side effects such as discoloration, or the formation of new, superficial tiny blood vessels. The solution can be highly caustic; inadvertent injection into areas outside the vein can lead to serious side effects in the tissue surrounding the vein.

VeinSight™ vein finder who use harmless near-infrared light could not only help doctors to better isolate the feeder veins, but also demonstrate to patients the difference before and after procedure. If the treatment succeeds, spider veins or varicose veins would close, that means we couldn’t find it on the map of veins. With the help of VeinSight vein finder VS500, we could take a picture of vein before and after treatment, by comparing the difference of pictures, we are able to show more intuitively the result of treatment.

Vein viewer could accurately visualize the flow direction of venous blood and project a real-time two-dimensional image, which meets the requirements of precision medicine. For treatment of varicose veins and spider veins, vein finder ensures the puncture success rate of minimally invasive surgery and the injection of sclerosing agent into the venous cavity, improve the efficiency of the operation, reduce the occurrence of postoperative complications, reduce the possibility of medical disputes, and improve the quality of medical care.
